How do I get Internet Explorer to stop "encountering problems" and closing on me.?

Several times when I use my computer a message pops up and says "Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close" It gives the option to send an error report. Then the window closes. It's so frustrating, how do I get it to stop? What is wrong with my computer?
